"Others" have tried to maintain control over black bodies similar to how they did previously with Sarah Baartman. To these "others" if they have control over what we do with our black bodies and how it is portrayed they have complete power over us. I believe personally that "others" feel the need to maintain control over black bodies because they want to ensure that it is never seen as superior. In class we talked about how white women were seen as jewels and they were pure but black women, even black people as a whole, were never seen in a positive way. They rather continue to make us feel inferior and portray us how they want us to be seen. "Others" control black bodies by giving us the opportunity to be on reality shows by being violent and hyper-sexual, in which we slowly degrade our black culture by conforming to the negative stereotypes against us. They control black bodies by trying to make their ways a standard for others to follow, "white is right" mentality.  In the reading "Selling Hot Pussy," it talks about how Tina Turner wore straight blonde wigs, a more modern example would be Beyonce, and how she changes their black features to resemble those of white women. "Others" control these black bodies by saying if they don't have a certain look they aren't important. One example I saw in one blog post was Barbie. Barbie is white with blue eyes, long blonde hair, and fairly thin. What example does this set for young black girls? It makes them feel inferior because they don't look like that but because Barbie is popular among white children they will try to fit in and do what they do.

This video is an example of how black children are controlled. It is really saddening.

The dramatic difference between white and black dolls.
